When will you be done? How to answer in an agile framework - with Ryland Leyton, CBAP

Thursday, June 15, 2023 -
6:00pm to 7:30pm

Answering “when will you be done?” to people outside the team – like the C-suite, directors, and managers – is often a challenge for teams focused on building software. Speaking to this group in a way comprehensible for an elevator or a hallway is a core competency for any agilist who wants to retain freedom and funding! This session takes a brief walk through the concept of velocity, explains the “cone of uncertainty”, burnup and burn-down charts, and then shows you how to provide a ready and truthful answer about when you’ll be done.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand the concept of velocity as used in common agile situations.
  • Understand what causes velocity to increase and decrease on teams.
  • Understand how to estimate large chunks of work to obtain useful range answers and project valid “finishing” answers for your stakeholders.

As with all our sessions, we leave plenty of time for Q&A at the end.

Session recording will be available for 30 days to registrants.
